Karmapa offers Chöd empowerment to female practitioners
The XVIIth Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, will be giving initiation and teachings on Chöd at the Dorzong Monastic Institute (Jangchub Jong), in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, from now through Sunday. Chöd was developed by the 11th-century Tibetan yogini Machig Labdron and is practiced by nearly all Vajrayana lineages. An estimated 1,000 practitioners are expected to attend the three-day event, which was initiated via a request by Western Buddhist teacher Lama Tsultrim Allione.
On the 29th, a long-life initiation will be offered to the general public at the Dorzong Monastic Institute. While Chöd empowerments are not uncommon, this is the first time in this lifetime that His Holiness has given this empowerment and these teachings.
