Sign petition to free Tibetan journalist Dhondup Wangchen
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), an international nonprofit dedicated to freedom of the press, is asking concerned individuals to sign this petition calling on the Chinese government to free imprisoned Tibetan journalist Dhondup Wangchen.
Wangchen was taken into Chinese custody in March 2008 for his film Leaving Fear Behind, which documents the effect of Chinese policies in Tibet. It features local Tibetans speaking about the atmosphere in Tibet and calling for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. For making the film, Wangchen was sentenced to six years in a labor camp for “inciting separatism.”
On November 20, CPJ will honor Wangchen with its 2012 International Press Freedom Award. Though the documentarian will be unable to attend, you can do your part to try to speed his release by signing the petition at his page at causes.com.
