Jody Hojin Kimmel receives Denkai in Mountains and Rivers Order

On October 13, 2012, Jody Hojin Kimmel received Denkai, or priestly transmission of the precepts, from Shugen Sensei at Zen Mountain Monastery. Her primary teacher, John Daido Loori Roshi, had begun the transmission before his death in 2009. Shugen Sensei completed the transmission in a traditional week-long ceremony. Hojin Osho (osho means “priest”) is Zen Mountain Monastery‚Äôs training coordinator and tenzo. She has taught drawing, ceramics, and painting, and continues to teach on the creative process within the Mountains and Rivers Order. She has been in full-time residential training at the Monastery since 1990.
