Leaders of two Orange County temples ask for help finding funds they say were collected for Superstorm Sandy relief

The Los Angeles Times reports that Venerable Thich Quang Thanh of the Bao Quang Temple in Santa Ana, CA, and Venerable Thich Chon Thanh of the Lien Hoa Temple in Garden Grove, CA, are working together to locate significant funds they say were collected for Superstorm Sandy relief but never made it to Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Fund to Advance NY City. According to the report, a check for $7,000 and a check for $20,000 “made it only as far as neighboring Westminster, CA, where the funds were deposited into a local bank account.” The Vietnam Interfaith Council, which handled the checks, says that “it appears that no one endorsed the checks and that each contains the words ‘lack of endorsement’ on the back.” In addition, they say it is their practice to “quickly deposit checks such as the donations from the Buddhist temple and that a detailed ledger is kept of all donations.” Read the full report here.
