Douglas Phillips receives denkai transmission

In a private ceremony last month at the Boundless Way Temple in Worcester, Massachusetts, Douglas Phillips received lay denkai transmission from James Ford.

Phillips, a clinical psychologist and also an Episcopal priest, has practiced zen and vipassana for over 30 years. Along with Ford, his primary teachers have been Maurine Stuart, Roshi, Zen Master George Bowman (with whom he took Jukai), and Larry Rosenberg.

“He is a fiery personality, and like with all the most interesting people, has a history,” Ford says of Phillips. “As a Zen teacher, I expect him to offer the distillation of his insight, of his wounds, of his whole person.” Read more at Ford’s Monkey Mind blog.
