Zen teacher Genki Takabayashi dies at 81

SweepingZen.com reports that retired Rinzai Zen teacher Muhoan Genki Takabayashi Roshi died on Monday at his home in Montana, at the age of 81. The cause of his death was complications from a car accident last year and congestive heart failure. He is survived by his wife, Genei Leslie Gannon.

Genki Roshi became the resident teacher at the Seattle Zen Center (which later became Chobo-ji) in 1978. He retired in 1998 and was succeeded by Genjo Joe Marinello Osho. Visit Sweeping Zen for a longer obituary.
