Exploring Illness, Aging, and Death: Free conference call tomorrow afternoon
Metta Institute founder Frank Ostaseski, and Spirit Rock Meditation Center teachers James Baraz and Anna Douglas, will be leading a free conference call on Tuesday, April 2, from 12:00 to 1:15 p.m. PDT. The discussion will cover the subject of embracing illness, aging, and death as part of our spiritual practice, and using them as a means to develop wisdom and compassion. Douglas (along with Susan O’Connell and David Whitehorn) also participated in the Spring Buddhadharma magazine’s forum discussion on how sanghas can help their aging members — click here to read the introduction.
Tuesday’s conference call will also introduce a new program called Heavenly Messengers, a collaboration between Spirit Rock and the Metta Institute. The program will include five residential retreats and combine classic Buddhist practice and study with mindfulness meditation, contemporary approaches to caregiving, and compassionate action. Core faculty also includes Bob Stahl, Sharda Rogel, and Ange Stephens. Guest teachers include Jack Kornfield, Kathleen Dowling Singh, Norman Fischer, Joan Halifax Roshi, Ram Dass, Stephen and Ondrea Levine, and more.
