Applications open for Buddhist Education for Social Transformation program
The International Women’s Partnership for Peace and Justice is accepting applications for its Buddhist Education for Social Transformation (BEST) program. BEST is an innovative yearlong course focused on transformation of individuals, communities, the environment, and the world. The program is open to anyone seeking a Buddhist perspective in his or her approach to personal development, social justice, and social change work. Applications are due by May 1.
BEST starts with a residential program in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from July 9 to 28, 2013, and a second 10-day program in Chiang Mai in June 2014. The interim time includes self-study, small group study, and an independent project that will be presented during the second residential period. The course builds on IWP’s experience working with social change agents from the grassroots to the government levels over the past 15 years. Staff include Ouyporn Khuankaew and Ginger Norwood, and invited faculty include Dr. Kathryn Norsworthy, Phra Paisal Visalo, Dhammananda Bhikkuni, Roshi Joan Halifax, Dr. Varaporn Chamsanit, Maia Duerr, Dr. Becky Thompson, and Anchalee Karutach.
