Zen Poets and the Three Truths: A workshop at Village Zendo

Northeast USA

September 28, 2013
10:00 amto1:00 pm

 New York City

With Hoshi Deirdre Eisho Peterson

In this workshop, we will read some of the most beloved Zen poets of 17th- to 19th-century Japan, including Basho, Issa, Rengetsu, and Ryokan.  We’ll look at their verse, as well as prose-and-haiku writings, such as Basho’s “Narrow Road to the Interior” and Issa’s “The Spring of My Life.”  We will examine how these poets expressed the Three Truths of impermanence, suffering, and interconnection.  We will read poems aloud together, as well as write some of our own.

Fee:  $30 members, $35 nonmembers.

Preregistration is required.
