Agence France-Presse reports that Chinese social media is exploding with criticism as news has emerged about Chinese authorities “restoring” centuries-old Buddhist frescoes in a Chaoyang temple with “cartoon-like figures from Taoist myths.”

“‘As a man from Chaoyang, I sincerely feel some people’s brains were kicked by a donkey,’ wrote a user with the online handle Brave Brick.”
