“Monk with a Camera” nominated for HP Bridging the Borders Award

Monk with a Camera — the documentary whose US premiere (as we mentioned previously) will be this weekend at the Palm Springs International Film Festival (if you’re planning to attend, tickets are almost sold out) — has been nominated for the HP Bridging the Borders Award. The film, which traces Nicholas Vreeland’s journey from young New York socialite/photographer to becoming a Buddhist monk, and eventually being appointed by the Dalai Lama as the first Western abbot of a Tibetan Buddhist institution, is one of six selected as contenders to be named “most successful film in bringing the people of our world closer together.” A jury from the sponsoring organization, Cinema Without Borders, will announce the winner at the festival’s awards ceremony on January 12.
