Former San Francisco Zen Center Abbess Linda Ruth Cutts is active with the California Interfaith Power and Light (CIPL). Back in 2007 the Zen Center received CIPL’s Energy Oscar award for its efforts to help the environment (for one, they put solar panels atop the Center).
Linda wrote a chapter for Love God, Heal Earth, a new book that features 21 high-ranking spiritual leaders from diverse faiths who write in support of environmental stewardship and describe how their communities are approaching environmental awareness and action. The book was compiled by respected religious environmentalist Rev. Canon Sally G. Bingham.
Love God, Heal Earth is available in bookstores, online, and through The Regeneration Project.
And this just in from Waylon Lewis of Elephant Journal (via Nick Vail): The head of the Kagyu lineage, the 17th Karmapa, has laid down the environmental law for his sangha and centers. A report appears here.
