Iggy Pop, New Order to play star-studded March Tibet House benefit in NY

Per Rolling Stone: Organizers have announced that the grandfather of punk, Iggy Pop, will headline the March 11 event at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Pop will share the musical bill with EDM pioneers New Order, Joe Walsh (ex-Eagles), Patti Smith and her band, and the National’s guitarist Bryce Dessner. Attendees will also be treated to performances by Tibetan singer-songwriter Techung, as well as the composers Nico Muhly and Phillip Glass.

Husband and wife actors Maggie Gyllenhall and Peter Sarsgaard will co-chair the event.

Hear a taste of Techung’s haunting voice, with a slide show of images from Tibet, after the jump:

Tibet House US “is dedicated to preserving Tibet’s unique culture at a time when it is confronted with extinction on its own soil.” Concert-only tickets for the annual benefit are on sale now.
